The brand’s head of innovation, Purnima Lamba, revealed that it was a French
opera show Lakmé, which inspired the brand’s nomenclature.â€All in all, the show
was a true tribute to the roots, with an Indian twist to it.The flowy
silhouettes created an almost ethereal effect and the tones of the clothes
varied from pristine white to aqua, bronze, midnight blue and a surprise splash
of vivid reds and maroons, all using traditional Chikankari designs typical of
Lucknow handicrafts. The Lakmé Absolute show this Winter/Festive season has been
very special as well – this is my first collection featuring this embroidery of
Chikankari. The show, which showcased eminent designer Sanjay Garg’s Cloud
People collection, started with a choir mingling their voices as they stood in
formation on the stage, wearing stark black before gliding off.
The grand opening
of the winter/festive season of Lakme Fashion Week looked back to the roots of
the brand with a show at the Royal Opera House.Speaking about the experience,
Sanjay said, "This show tonight, and Rayon

circle as Lakmé Fashion Week was where I had my first show. "Opera is in our

"Priyanka is yet to get it (fashion) like Freida Pinto does but she is working
her way up to it. Though E! Online listed Priyanka’s look amongst the worst
dressed celebrities at this year’s award ceremony, the Indian design fraternity
feels the star rocked the chic look with class but could do better.The actress
who made her international debut with Quantico last year looks sexy and elegant,
says designer Rina Dhaka and adds, "To stand next to fashionista Sofia Vergara
and look as hot and sexy as her, I believe Priyanka did it with utmost grace and
sensuality. Instead of a plunging neckline, I would have preferred a deeper
back.The detailing in the garment uplifted the look to the next level and
Priyanka is definitely moving in the right direction, feels designer Urvashi
Kaur. Now she looks more modern and on trend,†Urvashi adds. The open hair and
strong lip colour added elements to the whole look.â€Talking about her previous
red carpet looks, Rina states, "Her previous two red carpet looks (Oscars and
Emmy 2016) have been more in the lines of romantic chic, but this one is more

The colour palette included ombre
Sufi Kathak dancer Manjari Chaturvedi performs at the India Couture Week 2016 in
New Delhi on Thursday night. The colour palette was golden infused with hues of
cream, rusts, browns, reds and pink and muted blue. The courtesans themselves
were style icons. She presented a luxury bohemian collection representing the
new-age bride, where the chintz-inspired prints brought alive a Mughal garden in
its full bloom.Anita mesmerised the audience with her bright, gota patti
lehengas teamed with bohemian blouses. The collection had the ethnic, rustic and
soothing look. He paid tribute to the highest bastions of culture, poetry, dance

donned a peach-pink lehenga choli and dupatta embellished in Swarovski.
Tahiliani’s collection included panelled jackets, voluminous skirts, concept
saris, lehengas interspersed with French knots and floral embroidery blouses.
The colour palette included ombre, yellows, blues, oranges, reds and pinks on
fabrics like sushi voile, georgette, cotton jacquard, cotton silks, crepes and
cutwork jamdanis to create light and breezy styles in draped forms.â€Veteran
fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani closed the second day of the five-day fashion
gala with grandeur and elegance with his collection "Last dance of the
courtesanâ€. The designer said, "The idea was to transport the audience into a
luxurious Rajasthan palace garden with the sheer grandeur of the architectured
set with the playful jhulla, pink bougainvillaea, water fountain and the famed
hand-done thikri craft. Speaking about the collection, the Sufi Kathak dancer
said, "The way Tarun brought in an old tradition in a modern format was
spectacular. Traditional styles like the lehenga choli and metal
zipper sari are reinvented in contemporary silhouettes,†she said.Anita
Dongre showcased the free-spirited bride taking inspiration from the world of
gypsies in her collection "Epic Love†while the Indian courtesan inspired Tarun
Tahiliani’s collection. "Our muse, the young gypsy princess, is free-spirited
and yet embraces tradition in her own special way. Music producer Gaurav Raina’s
melodious blend of Indian classical and folk with electronic music set an earthy
background while the vintage-inspired saris, long skirts, different styles of
blouses, dupattas, achkans and kurtas for men displayed elegance wrapped in
tradition
